Phoenix tattoos
Daniel and I have been talking about getting tattoos next year for our two year wedding anniversary. We don't want to get the cliche name thing, though. I'm sorry, but i just consider that to be way too corny, it's been too over done. And besides, I want what is on my body to mean something to me. Be a symbol of something that is important to me, not to anyone else. We really want to get matching phoenixes though. Well, not exactly matching. The design for both will be slightly different and the colors different as well, but the gist of it is going to be the same. I found some random pictures on Google.com of phoenix tattoos. There are three that I really like. They all have different designs to them, but I wanted to see what kind of medium I should expect when we go in to get the initial drawing/design done for them.
I'm wanting to get mine on my back going from my right shoulder blade down to my left hip. It's going to be a big piece and take at least two sessions, I know that much already. I've heard that getting tattooed on the ribs and spine is the most painful, but hopefully my high tolerance for pain will help me through it. At any rate, if I can have a baby I can handle getting a tattoo! Haha.
I really like the design on this one, but I'd want the one I am getting to be sleeker. I've already got a black ankh tattooed on my left shoulder blade, and I want the space above/near my right hip to be for the tattoo I'm getting for Kael. So I need it to go diagonally across my back. We'll have to see wha they come up with and hopefully it will be something that we both will like.
I really like this tattoo also. Especially the colors that were used in it and the background shading. Now, like I said I want my tatoo to run diagonally across my back from right shoulder to left hip.. so a design like this isn't really what I'd want in the end. But it is so incredibly beautiful. *Sighs* I know that at least want to fiddle with a color palate close to this. I want to stick to greens, blues, and purples of varying hues. I don't really want to go bright red and orange like the 'traditional' phoenix is depicted. I just don't see myself in that way.. it's hard to explain.
Daniel wants to get his tattoo on his right calf. He wants his phoenix to basically wrap around the lower part of his leg, which I think would look really awesome. He said he wants his to be 'fiery' and red with some darker tones put in. I think that would suit him and his personality. He has a fierce, fiery mind that can be very dark but at the same time bursting with life and energy. I love the fact that my hubby can be so complex. *Grin*
This last tattoo just blew me away when I saw it. I know that it is unfinished, but the over-all design of it is very, very close to what I want to get done. I love the way the tail feathers curl and how they have an almost peacock-esque look to them but still maintain that etheral look that phoenixes are so known for. I don't want something overly masculine (although I'm fairly sure that Daniel will want his to be), I want it to be strong. But strong and masculine are two seperate things in my book.
If I could I would flip this design and then lay it diagonally across my back. The only thing I might change is to make the body of the phoenix slightly larger. But I would really love to keep that type of look to the tattoo I'm getting. I'm going to try and print this picture out later when we go to see the artists at the tattoo palor we are going to (they did my ankh and Daniel's kanji last time and are really great about being sanitary and are overall really gret guys), maybe they can figure out something with it. I hope so.
